This week sees the second time an epic eight-hour battle took place between angler and fish while fishing with Pisces, but we’ll get back to that later. For the most part the week saw an increase in the numbers of striped marlin seen, as well as having decent numbers of yellowfin tuna. Alongside the striped marlin, we also saw boats landing very nice sized wahoo’s, and the odd dorado. Inshore, the focus was mostly on roosterfish, which continue to be a feature. Other species landed include jack crevalle, red snapper, sierra mackerel and a few hammerhead’s (catch & release), with one even up to 200 pounds. However, our main story this week is an unlikely fish-tale featuring captain Tito Olascoaga of the Knot Workin, who was fishing with deckhand Pepe on a backup boat, the Sea Bum. They set offshore from the arch and landed a nice 25lbs wahoo for their anglers from Texas, nearing the end of the day at 1:15pm they had a hookup on a small 20lbs reel, with 40lbs test line and an 80lbs leader that was set up with a caballito live bait. The monster had to be a very large fish, with an epic 8 hour-long battle culminating in the 500 pound (estimated) black marlin breaking the line. An amazing day and story that will no doubt last a lifetime for Jerry, Jon, Mary and Steve.

Apart from the Pisces Knot Workin’s black marlin, our top marlin boat this week was the Pisces Tracy Ann captained by Julio Castro. They managed to catch and release four marlin two days this week, while two other days saw them catch and release three striped marlins, and added on a 40lbs wahoo one day and two yellowfin tuna another. Most fish were landed on caballito live bait around the 95 and 11:50 Spots, we saw many other boats land multiple striped marlins per boat, especially towards the end of the week. The Pisces La Brisa caught and released a striped marlin of around 80 pounds and the only sailfish of the week a 120 pounder, both were landed on caballito live bait at the 11:50 Spot for the Svendsen’s of Arizona. That same day the Pisces Yahoo had four striped marlin caught and released for a group of anglers from Woodlands, Texas. While the Pisces Adriana, exemplified a well rounded Cabo day for their anglers from Texas. They caught and released a 110 pound striped marlin, landed a 25 pound yellowfin tuna as well as a 40 pound wahoo.
